This Friday the kids will finish school for 10 days as they start the first break of the new school year. Even though it seems very soon to be taking a week off, I think that at this time of the year everyone is tired from the effort of getting up early, the pick ups, drop offs, school lunches, homework, extra curriculum activities etc etc. The list is endless. Add to this the changeable weather with hot one day, cold the next and of course this year there is also the dreaded swine flu on top of all the regular coughs and colds. The mid-term break can’t come soon enough as far as I’m concerned. A good rest and a bit of funtime will work its magic on all of us.
At Chuckies, we always try to do something special to facilitate parents during times when the kids are off school. Its hard work being at home with kids all day and regular meals become a grazing all day event. Last year we introduced the Breakfast Club during the Summer Holidays and it seemed to be a real hit with parents & grandparents. The idea was that kids would jump out of bed, on with the clothes and out the door. Chuckies provided a Free kids breakfast whenever they were ready to eat. And while the kids play, mum or dad got to have a relaxing morning coffee or tea and read the paper. No cleanup after. Just relax and enjoy the rest of the day.
This Summer we introduced the Teatime Club which was the same concept. Kids who were visiting chuckies for an afternoon treat were given a free tea in the evening. Lots of people brought the pj’s and dressed them for bed before they left for home. Again, apart from being great value, there was no planning, no shopping and no cleanup required. Just head home and relax after the day.
We’re delighted to continue these two special offers throughout the mid-term this year and hope that it will be of help to parents in relaxing and taking it easy before the next school term begins.

I’m delighted to see that Donal Skehan who has the good mood food blog has brought out a cookery book. If the blogg is anything to go by, I’m sure the book will be full of great family receipes, kid’s favourites with a new twist and mouthwatering pictures to kick start the urge to get cooking. Definately one for the Christmas list.
Thanks to Tina who brought this book to our Wednesday morning Book Exchange. Written by Carole Matthews it is a lovely light hearted read. A great make you laugh and make you cry story. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on some more books by this author. Well worth the read.
I came across this article in the book ‘Chicken soup for the Mother’s Soul’. It was written by Laine Kupferberg Carter and I hope she won’t mind me sharing it.
A big THANK YOU to everyone who visited Chuckies today. In total, we raised 1,560 euros for the Children’s Unit of the Mercy Hospital. We certainly enjoyed ourselves and Steve the Magician put on a fantastic show for the little ones at our morning party. In the afternoon the 96FM street fleet had everyone up and dancing to the beat. There were smiles everywhere and we hope that everyone had a very memorable World Smile Day at Chuckies.
